Surgery Day

Jett had oral surgery yesterday to correct some problems he had with his teeth. He got 4 teeth removed, 3 stitches, 2 caps, 1 space maintainer, and 1 regular filling. He had to go to the pediatric oral surgeon and be put under anesthesia because of a decaying root that was still in his gums. The nice thing is that since they already have him under anesthesia, they fix all the teeth with problems. They also removed 2 extra teeth to help prevent crowding problems in the future.

Here is Jett in the waiting room, feeling pretty nervous....lots of waiting and no food or water for over 16 hours does not make Jett a happy camper!

Finally it was his turn. The nurse called his name and as anxious as he was to get it over with, he was just as reluctant to walk into that room! I actually had to push him through the door! He got weighed and measured and then he got to pick a new tooth brush and some stickers. Then Mike helped him get changed into this super cool Looney Toons hospital shirt while I signed about a thousand papers! Talk about a strange feeling when they put the rails up on that gurney and wheeled him away from us. Thankfully, they let him keep "Teddy" who is Jett's life-long friend and comforter with him throughout the surgery.

About an hour and a half later, they called me into recovery to pick him up. Here he is just waking up, still looking and feeling a little woozy. (He doesn't remember me taking this picture!)The effects of the anesthesia only last about another hour or so after we got home and we went and had a soft treat at Yogurt Time. It is really unbelievable how quickly he recovered! He even went to school today!

That is no fun! I've had oral surgery before, and mouth pain is horrible. Atleast it's all over with.
