The other night we were just hanging out watching a movie (Sahara...great movie), and Kolt and Jett were doodling on the white board. As I glanced over at them I noticed that Kolt was really starting to make some deliberate lines and calling them his name. So, I went over and wrote his name for him on the top of the board and showed him how to make the letters and he just took off writing his name! He was so adorable the way he was in such concentration and you could see him look at the one I wrote then look down at what he was going to write and kind of wave the marker above the board before he actually made the mark. (He would also switch hands when he got to the other side of the board which I thought was interesting) We were all so excited clapping and jumping up and down! He wrote all of the names on the board except for the one in black at the top!
Monday morning was haircut day for my boys...at least most of them. All of the "black-haired" boys got their normal do's, but my wild child Jett opted out this time. I guess we were catching some "vibes" from his costume as Shaggy, because we decided to see how he would look with a little bit of a shaggy do (picture in my head=Troy from High School Musical). So this morning, I moussed and sprayed him up and asked him to let me get a picture, but he is a little bit self-conscious about it since everyone else got their Missionary style do and he is looking different, so he was very reluctant to let me get a picture (as you can tell because he is "hiding" behind the chair and making such a cute face!), but I thought he looked so cute. I think the long style will suite him if he can hold out. He has already asked me for the short cut today, and also let me know that the hairspray was too sticky and he had to go into the bathroom and wash it out! Oh well, what can I say...he will be handsome no matter which cut he has.
We also went to the McCallum, once again, today! This time to see probably my second favorite show of all time that is shown there (the first would be a performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat that Sierra and I saw a few years ago). It is called Snowflake and it is about a homeless man who lives on the street, but there is no talking at all. He uses his body language to tell his story. He just wants to be like the people on the billboard that he can see from his junkyard shelter. So he happens to find a "dummy" that someone threw out and then he makes a dog out of a suitcase. He dances and acts silly to "cheer up" his little friend and dog by dancing in skiis, riding a skateboard over bubble wrap, and playing "tennis" with tin cans. It really is a super play, and Jett just loved it, which is part of the magic of it....that a little boy with as much need for action as Jett understood and enjoyed the entire thing! After leaving Jett off at school, I went to pick up Sierra and she has been anxious to get to the bank to open her first checking and savings accounts. She opened up a Teen Checking Account. She has been working (babysitting and delivering medical reports) and saving her money for about 2 months and finally saved up the $
100 it takes to open it up. So we went down to the bank. We were lucky to get a great guy to help her. He explained everything to her about passwords and pin numbers and checks and ATM cards and using debit and credit. (She has since told me that all that information gave her a headache!) He set up her online banking and showed her the home page and how to navigate the website and everything! She had a little trouble with her "signature" though since she is not used to signing things that often. It took her a few tries with that annoying electronic keypad to record her signature, but the guy was very patient with her and let her have a few tries before he saved it! Then I had to give her a short lesson on how to keep track of her balance with her check register and she wrote her first check to pay her tithing. So now she is excitedly awaiting her ATM card to arrive in the mail, so she can swipe away for her itunes and lip gloss!

November 14, 2007 at 3:18 PMI am so impressed with Kolt's writing! Wow! I'm glad Kolt is over here right now, because he and Ammon are playing so nicely and I can blog! Kolt is getting Ammon into playing with cars and they have 'Cars' the movie playing in the background and Kolt keeps reciting the some of the lines. Ammon never wants to watch it, so I think Kolt is introducing him to a new way of playing that doesn't inclue pirates!!!!! I tagged you by the way.
