Will it be leftovers, ramen noodles, PB&J, hot dogs.....or......a plate of plain lettuce and a "peanut butter spoon"? That is exactly what Kolt asked for the other day when I asked him what he wanted to eat for lunch! What a silly little boy, but he did eat it all and was very happy doing it. It is probably obvious that he is my fourth child, since I didn't even argue about this strange choice of lunches, just gave it to him and took a picture!
My Legacy of Grandpa Anderson
My Grandpa Anderson was a larger-than-life, over 6 foot, blue-eyed, blond-haired man who worked hard his entire life...and ate his cottage cheese absolutely coated in black pepper! So which of these attributes did I take from my Grandfather? Well, I'm obviously not tall, blond, or blue-eyed, and my work ethic at times leaves something to be desired....so I guess that leaves cottage cheese! The other day, as I made myself a bowl of cottage cheese with tomatoes (the tomato thing comes from my Mother) and shook the usual thick coating of pepper on top, I thought of my Grandpa because the reason I like cottage cheese this way is because he did! I remember eating lunch at Grandma and Grandpa's house one day and watching Grandpa dump loads of pepper onto his cottage cheese and I decided that I had to have mine that way too. The funny thing is that in later years...after 40 years or so of eating the cottage cheese that Grandma generously served him on a regular basis because she noticed how he always peppered it and quickly ate it up (most likely so he wouldn't hurt her feelings), it was finally found out that he hated cottage cheese and the only way he could force himself to eat the stuff was to cover it with pepper and gobble it down as fast as possible! So now, funny as it may seem, I do love cottage cheese, but only heavily coated with lots of black pepper...just like Grandpa!

June 5, 2008 at 1:14 PMYou know its stories like that that make me ask my husband after each new meal "do you like it? No REALLY, do you like it? Because if you say yes I'll make it again and again and you'll have to keep eating it." And I try not to feel sad when he says no... ;) What a great story about Grandpa.- Shelli said...
June 10, 2008 at 10:31 PMThat was such a good story about Grandpa. It is nice to read stories like that a learn what kind of man he was. I just don't remember very much about him except that I said "boobs" one time at the dinner table and I don't think I had ever seen him laugh that hard!!
