Going to the Doctor

In preparation for our move (not to mention the fact that my poor kids hadn't had a well child visit for over 2 years!), I made appointments for all of the kids to have their check ups right before we left town. Jett and Kolt were first. They were pretty excited and nervous since Blaze and Sierra decided to torture them with the threat of shots for 2 weeks before their visit!

They were pretty relaxed and happy in their pediatrician's cute waiting room. Then they got called back to get weighed and measured, then taken to their exam room, where it was proven to me that they CAN actually see AND hear! Amazing!

Then they got to put on these awesome paper gowns with fire engines and dogs on them so that the doctor could examine them. Dr. talked to the boys about the usual...brushing their teeth, and wearing seat belts and helmets for safety, all which got a nod of the head from Jett. But then, he mentioned that he should be watching no more than 2 hours of TV a day, and Jett's eyes got about as big as half dollars and an "UUUH"!

Then it was time for what Dr. referred to as "an underwear check." I swear, I have never seen two little boys so giggly in my life! It was so funny because they laughed the entire time, which wasn't very long I guess, he just quickly checked each of them and put their gowns back down, but those two giggled about that for the entire rest of the day! Then when we got home, they had to make sure and tell Blaze about it too! Unfortunately, their giggles went away pretty fast when they heard that...yes, they were going to have to get shots! Jett only needed one, but poor Kolt (who was WAY behind on h
is shots) had to get 4! The anticipation was killer! So finally the nurse came back in with 5 syringes. I was pretty proud of Jett, he held up pretty well and just gave a little "Ow," but poor Kolty, he lost it from the minute she grabbed his arms to hold him steady! He cried and cried...and milked it for the rest of the day! "I can't walk, my legs hurt too bad!"

I did feel bad enough that I took them for a "special lunch" at Pat and Oscars and then to visit the Disney Store, where Kolt's legs felt miraculously better!

Next, it was Sierra and Blaze's turn. They, too were pretty cheerful in the waiting room, thinking that since they were big kids they probably wouldn't have to get any shots like the little kids.

They got their hearing checked and they, too CAN hear, and Sierra has perfect eyesight WITHOUT any glasses!

Things are looking great until the nurse says it's time to get undressed for the doctor's examination. Well, Sierra gets this look on her face...she is NOT going to undress in the same room as her brother. So I ask the nurse if they can take turns and she says ok and asks Blaze to step out into the hallway. So I show Sierra how to work the paper gown and the nurse and I open the door to step out and give her some privacy, and there we find Blaze obediently undressing...in the hallway! It was so funny! The nurse quickly shuffled him to a private exam room right next door to Sierra's and he also got a cool fireman gown to wear! Snazzy!

Then, Dr. came in to examine Blaze first. He began to do the usual examination...heart, lungs, reflexes...then, he says in a low voice "Do you want to play a joke on your sister?" Of course, Blaze gets this huge grin on his face and says "Yeah!" So Dr. starts telling Blaze to yell things like "I don't want to!" "Stop it!" "That's gross!" and Dr. starts talking loudly to Blaze saying things like, "I hope your sister is not as naughty as you are!"....all the while Blaze, Dr., and I are laughing hysterically (as quietly as possible). So Blaze gets done with his exam and Dr. and I head over to see Sierra and sure enough, she had heard every word and had a very worried look on her face! It was so funny! She said, "Why was Blaze yelling?" So then we told her and she thought it was pretty funny because she couldn't decide if it was real or not when she heard it! All in all they both had good check ups and they did have to get shots! Blaze only had to get one, but Sierra had to get 3! "Ouch!"

Poor Kolt! That reminded me of when I had to get shots in my leg and the nurse hit a nerve or something that deadened my entire leg! Do you remember that?
