Silliness, Accomplishments, Easter Eggs, Why I Hate Ironing, My Beautiful Easter "Eggs"
Posted by Chauna at 9:46 PMFor an after school snack one day I purchased a package of white powdered donuts for the kids to share. I know that the powdered lips are inevitable with the powdered donuts, but they do taste so yummy! As Jett was eating his donuts, we noticed that he had a significant white ring around his mouth and we began to giggle a bit. Jett, being the character that he is, thought that if a little powder will get a little giggle, then a lot of powder would probably get a huge laugh out of us all. He was right! Not to be outdone, Tatiana decided she would join in and powdered up her face as well! The two of them could hardly stop laughing long enough to eat their donuts after smearing the powder all over their faces!
Later that same week, the same boy who covered his face with powdered sugar for the sake of silliness, won the PE Award for the month for his grade! He was so happy (Just look at that grin!!) to be getting a Student of the Month Award at school, and we are so proud of him! It seems only fitting that he should be recognized for what he does best....running, jumping, playing, and having a great time!
The Cub Scouts Blue and Gold Dinner was held this Friday, right here in our back yard. It turned out to be such a great night and we were so blessed to have such a "family feel" for the night. I was SO happy the weather was absolutely perfect (not a puff of wind in sight) and the sun went down just in time for us to have a nice cool dinner out in the back yard. All of the Scouts received lots of hard earned awards (partly due to the fact that we have not held a pack meeting for such a long time). It really makes it a fun night when everybody has earned something they can be proud of and advance in Scouting. Blaze earned his Bear Badge and is now a Webelos Scout and he is very anxious to start earning all the awesome pins the Webelos get for completing their requirements. Jett was introduced to the Scouting program since he will be 8 this year, and he received his first patch which has the Cub Scout Promise on it. He wants to get it memorized before his birthday so that he can get his Bobcat Badge right away! He is so excited to be joining Cub Scouts later this year!
On Saturday night, the kids and I colored Easter eggs. They really had a fun time and they created some really beautiful eggs, which have now become "doubled" eggs....have joined with mustard, mayo, and pickles for some yummy potato salad....and will soon become egg salad for sandwiches!
Once we were done decorating eggs, I had to get to hemming up Blaze's new pants for church. He is my child who needs one size to fit his waist, and another size to fit his legs. So of course, most often we must buy his pants to fit around his waist and hem up the length. So... I measured, pinned, and sewed. Then, I wasn't too happy with the way the cuffs on the bottom looked. I felt they needed to be a little more crisply creased, and decided that a nice hot iron would do the trick....Now, I have never professed to be an iron officionado and honestly have probably not even used my iron for over a year. Needless to say, my knowledge of the relationship between an iron and fabric is somewhat limited and unfortunately I confirmed that fact when I burned/melted a huge hole into Blaze's brand new church pants!!! GRRRR! I felt sick to my stomach and no amount of yelling "NOOOO" was going to repair the damage to these pants.
I ran off to the store to get another pair, and wouldn't you know it...they didn't have any more pants his size! So, I had to get the ones that were one size too big and now I have to pretty much remake the entire pair of pants. I sewed about a 1/2 inch out of every seam of those pants and had to take off about 6 inches off the bottom, but luckily in the end, he ended up with a pretty decent pair of pants for church today, which ended up costing me twice the price thanks to my very sad ironing abilities.
Easter morning found us, of course, up early hunting Easter eggs filled with candy and checking the kids' baskets with goodies from the Easter Bunny. Then we headed to church with my own personal little bunch of beautifully decorated Easter "Eggs." The kids were pretty good at church...probably partially because Blaze slept for the entire Sacrament meeting in a Benadryl-induced stupor (he was bitten by what we think is a spider, and with the bites being itchy and swollen, I gave him some Benadryl before church). After church, as we were walking out, Kolt was showing me his usual array of beautiful pictures his teacher gives them each week and he was telling me about how the bad guys "poked" Jesus and then "he came out of the rock." So I said "Wow, did you learn all about Easter?" and he looked at me a little weird and said "NO, we learned about Jesus!" Well, I guess that says it all!
I am so grateful that my kids have such wonderful teachers that they love to teach them about the Savior every week! Even at 4 years old, Kolt is beginning to understand. I am so thankful for the Savior and the sacrifice he made for me, and the plan God has created for us. I have found in my life that the more we try to follow that plan, the happier we are as a family. I am so grateful for the Church and the teachings of Christ that help me to be a better mom, wife, daughter, friend, and woman in the eyes of myself and others, as well as my Heavenly Father. I know He loves me as me, and knows me and my struggles personally, and he blesses me, whether I deserve it or not, Every Single Day!
(Wow...that all just kind of spilled out, but I will go ahead and leave it as my testimony to my friends, family, and to my children.....Love you all!)

March 25, 2008 at 12:02 PMI feel frustrated for you about Blaze's pants. How annoying! By the way, I'm going to try your beans that you have on your recipe blog, they look yummy!- Ranee` said...
March 27, 2008 at 12:10 PMI am so impressed with your sewing abilities! I usually just belt and roll and call it good! Although I can sew, I don't think I've ever attempted to fix something for Adam or A.J. except to maybe sew on a patch on work pants (stress the 'work' part) or fix a ripped seam. Anything harder to give to my mom! Adam would be so happy to have Blaze in his scouts (he is the 2nd counselor in the YM and over the scouts) and he has such a hard time getting his boys to do anything. I know a boy like Blaze would be a relief to him! So, how far are you from San Diego? Do we get to see you when we come out for Jordan's wedding in July?- Jennifer said...
April 4, 2008 at 1:41 PMCute kiddos. You are amazing. You do it all! By the way, the Blue and Gold Dinner was a lot of fun. Who made that incredible potato salad? Don't you just love the great job Sis. Vorwaller does with the sunbeams. Ammon LOVES primary thanks to her.
