This year the second half of October just sped right by us. After our big snow storm, the snow quickly melted and we are back to beautiful 50-60 degree fall temperatures. We have been busy with many fun and not-so-fun family events these past few weeks.
First of all, shortly after our big storm, Esperanza's (Mike's mom who we are living with now...that's her on the left) health took a sharp turn for the worse, which sent us on numerous doctor's visits, MRI's, blood testing, at the end of which she was sent to St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings (MT) about an hour and a half to the north of us, for a 3 day stay. This 3 days included being in Billings on Sierra's 15th birthday. When we found out Esperanza would be going to Billings, I took Sierra out of school to go with me in order to help take care of Kolt while I took care of Mom. I am so grateful for Sierra and her wonderful nature...she was not too disappointed that her 15th Birthday was spent between hospital room and hotel room taking care of Grandma and Kolt, eating lunch in the hospital cafeteria, and picking up birthday gifts (iTunes card, markers, journal, and Slim Jims) at a CVS Pharmacy down the street.
In fact, it was almost like she knew...because for months I have been asking her what she wanted to do for her birthday and the only response I got was "nothing...I don't even really want cake or anything." But I'm sure she will be counting on me to make it up to her next year for a Sweet 16 celebration!
Once we got back from the hospital, it was back to life as usual, although Mom's health is still not good and we are looking at a fairly long recovery period...school, work, church, and of course one of the most important events of our time...the release of the first new ACDC album in 15 years!
This event is being celebrated at Walmart with many ACDC T-shirts and a nice set up of "Rock Band" on Playstation. Luckily we happened to come upon this set up in the middle of the day when there wasn't a huge crowd around and Kolt had a great time rocking out on the drums while I picked up the CD for Mike.
Then, Halloween began to creep up on us and I took the kids shopping at Walmart for some costumes, which as always was a great adventure.

After trying on several silly masks and wigs, the little boys decided on Optimus Prime (Jett) and Bumblebee (Kolt) Transformer costumes.
Blaze pronounced that he didn't like any of the costumes and so decided that he would just wear his football uniform as his costume, which was totally fine with me. Sierra, now 15, is apparently done with costumes, but she did go for some glow in the dark nail polish and lipstick.
We chose some great pumpkins to carve and then the boys had to hit the arcade on the way out of Walmart. Being in Wyoming, there is a horse, bull, and motorcycle to ride and the little boys had a great time playing cowboy while Blaze took a spin on the motorcycle.

The night before Halloween, we dug into our pumpkins. Well, to be specific, Sierra, Blaze, Mike, and I dug into the pumpkins, while Kolt and Jett cried and gagged if they happened to come in contact with any little bit of pumpkin "guts."

Kolt was especially upset when Mike and Sierra decided to start a pumpkin guts fight and began flinging the slimy stuff at each other. He literally ran into the livingroom, hid his face, and began heaving like he was going to puke and Jett got about a half inch size piece of guts on his arm, which sent him into hysterics! What is wrong with these two little boys? Isn't digging the slimy yucky stuff out of the pumpkin at least half of the fun!

So once we got the older "kids" calmed down and behaving, we began our design process. Since Jett would not come near the pumpkins, Mike worked on his pumpkin. Jett chose one of the most complicated designs out of the book and Mike was sure it was not going to turn out. The design he picked was the "Headless Horseman," and it ended up turning out awesome!

Blaze's design was a skull with a spider web and it also turned out really cool!
Sierra did a cat and Kolt and I did a bat. Once all the slimy stuff was dealt with and the design taped on, Kolt took charge and They all turned out so cute and we were even told by one of our Trick-or-Treaters that our pumpkins were "the best in town!" Wow!

On Halloween night, we did Trick-or-Treating downtown and then having our traditional pizza dinner from our favorite local pizza place, Pizza On The Run.
Then, we headed out for another round of Trick-or-Treating, but ended up missing the church's Trunk-or-Treat, so we went to one of the busy streets in town and went up and down once and we were done. Blaze and cousin Jacob did about twice the amount of Trick-or-Treating we did (they would go around a whole block while we were on one side of the block!) with the little kids and had pillow cases filled about halfway! We went home thoroughly exhausted and the kids crashed from their sugar high by about 9:00 on a Friday night!
