This week, the boys finished up their baseball seasons on the two HOTTEST days of the year! Monday they both played in 113 degree heat! We were all so hot, we made a small shade "structure" I guess you could call it by hanging a blanket off the back open window of the truck to hang out under and Kolt beat the heat by getting soaking wet with one of his little "baseball buddies." Then Sierra gave Kolt a mohawk to illustrate first of all the wetness of his hair (which was not all water!), and the length of it...(hint, hint, he needs a hair cut!).Blaze had to play catcher for one inning and he was so overheated that he actually became nauseous...it was a little scary for a minute or two, but we doused him with water and got him into the shade and he was okay. Even though he was so overheated, he played really well and tagged one boy out at home (unfortunately the umpire didn't see it that way and called him safe! GRR!)...and then went on to pitch 2 shut out innings, which included a great pick off move, which I missed because I was watching Jett's game at the time. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to save the game for the Mets and they lost the game and received their parting medals. Of course, as all sports parents know, this turn of events is always bittersweet. We definitely want the kids to excel and keep winning, but at the same time, what a feeling of relief that it is all over and no more playing baseball in the heat!
Jett's team won their game on Monday, so we had to return on Tuesday for him to play in 112 degree heat! Fortunately we found a shady spot and there was a little breeze blowing so it wasn't nearly as bad as the day before. Sadly, the Marlins couldn't quite get their bats going and so lost their game and received their medals (they actually took 3rd place in the league, which is pretty awesome considering they had a VERY rough season!).
Congratulations on a Great Season Boys!

May 21, 2008 at 1:51 PMI love the mowhawk; he looks too cute! I'm glad Blaze is alright--I know from experience that heat stroke is no fun! Congratulations Jett--3rd place is really great!
