This summer we had the opportunity to go to both the Mountains and the Beach! We had a great time on Palomar mountain at the cabin of one of the kids' favorite teachers....Mrs. Machado. She has taught Sierra, Blaze, and Jett 1st grade and she has become a great friend of our family. We had a wonderful, relaxing, and cool weekend hanging out and riding the 4-wheelers! I even had a little crash with Kolt. He let me know that "this is not fun" but he was okay. I had a little knee injury that took about a month or so to heal up completely, but now all is good with that. Jett had a great time puttering around on his little quad and Sierra and Blaze had to "take turns" (that's code for 'fight over') with the other one and giving Kolt rides. After a super hot summer, we decided to cool off at the beach for a couple of days. The kids and I, along with our neighbor, Angie and two of her girls, Marissa and Jolie, visited Carlsbad Beach. The ocean and the weather were absolutely beautiful and Angie and I enjoyed doing nothing but sitting in our lawn chairs enjoying the sea breeze and watching the kids play. Sierra and Marissa showed Blaze how to boogie board for the first time and he was hooked. The three of them spent hours looking for the perfect waves and trying to catch the perfect ride. Jett also learned to boogie board in the shallows, but mostly played in the surf with Jolie, and "body surfing" the more shallow waves. Kolt loved digging in the sand and playing sand bowling. He dug himself quite a nice little "seat" in the sand, which no one else was allowed to sit in but him. Sierra and Marissa "camped" out on the patio of our hotel room and went for an early morning walk on the beach, collecting some pretty cool shells and Marissa even found a Sand Dollar! We all came home pleasantly exhausted with sunburns from the deceiving oceanside sunlight, except for Kolt who wisely hung out in the shadow of his mommy digging in the sand all weekend!
